Born in Joplin, Missouri, USA.
He is a former NASCAR driver and current analyst for Fox NASCAR. He is best known for winning the 2010 Daytona 500 for Chip Ganassi Racing, and is one of only three drivers to win both the Daytona 500 and Brickyard 400 in the same year.

Chip Ganassi Racing announced that McMurray would run the 24 Hours of Daytona in 2015 in the No. 02 car with Tony Kanaan, Scott Dixon, and Cup teammate Kyle Larson. The team won the event, and McMurray joined A. J. Foyt and Mario Andretti as the only drivers to win the Daytona 500 and 24 Hours of Daytona.
