Arnie Beswick "First NHRA Funny Car Under 10 Seconds" - April 17, 1965
April 17, 1965
www.risesales.com Arnie "The Farmer" Beswick becomes the first NHRA Funny Car driver to run the quarter-mile in under 10 seconds, with a time of 9.97 seconds during a meet in York, Pennsylvania, USA.
He was in the 8 second bracket before 1965 was over. The "Mystery Tornado" '64 GTO ran in the 8's at Union Grove in Wisconsin when I was there to see it.
Funny how far we have come with pump gas street cars with nothing but the motor and no fancy traction gadgets running into the nines!! We live in a great time:)
