He currently competes full-time in the NASCAR Cup Series, driving the No. 9 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 for Hendrick Motorsports and part-time in the NASCAR Xfinity Series, driving the No. 8 Chevrolet Camaro for JR Motorsports.
He is the son of 1988 Winston Cup Series champion Bill Elliott.

Elliott competed in five ARCA Racing Series races in 2013. On June 8, 2013, following his Pocono victory, Elliott became the youngest winner at that time in ARCA history.
He won the 2014 NASCAR Nationwide Series championship, becoming the first rookie to win a national series championship in NASCAR.
On November 23, 2015, Elliott was named the 2015 NASCAR Xfinity Series Most Popular Driver for the second year in a row.
